Robert Grant was born on February 5, 1891 in Leven, Scotland to parents William and Christina Grant. He spent his early childhood in Scotland with his brother, John, and sister, Christina. Sometime after the turn of the century, the Grant family immigrated to Canada, and made their home in Lethbridge, Alberta, where Mr. Grant worked at the Galt Collieries. Both John and Robert would serve in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces during the Great War. At time of enlistment, Robert was living at home and employed as a smelterman.
