Alfred Lippingwell was born on January 19, 1879 in Kent, England to parents Henry and Julia Lippingwell. He grew up in England with his siblings Annie, Charles, Edith, Elizabeth, Ellen, Elsie, Olive, May and William. As a young man, he immigrated to Canada, making his home in Lethbridge, Alberta with his wife Bertha. The Lippingwell’s had three girls, Ivy, Dulcie, and Freda. During his time in Lethbridge, Alfred was employed by the CPR on the High Level Bridge construction project. At time of enlistment, he was employed as a laborer. On September 27, 1915, Alfred Lippingwell enlisted with the 82nd Battalion CEF. He arrived in England on May 29, 1916 aboard the Empress of Britain.
