Colonel Earle Sarles and Colonel Art Timboe on the beach at Guadalcanal. Earle Sarles (1887-1970) commanded the North Dakota National Guard when it was federalized and became the 164th Infantry Regiment. A native of Devils Lake, North Dakota, Colonel Arthur Timboe (1907-1996) served in the 164th Infantry Regiment in World War II and as a Public Information Officer for the Korean Communication Zone during the Korean War.https://commons.und.edu/infantry-photos/1043/thumbnail.jp
