UND, Envoy Air partner on pilot training program

Collaborative mentoring effort to help students transition to airline cockpit The University of North Dakota John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences and Envoy Air have partnered on a pilot mentoring and hiring program. The new effort will provide UND aviation students a defined career to help them transition from UND to a first officer position with the airline. The program includes a $10,000 scholarship once the graduate is hired and commits them for a two-year period as a first officer. This is an outstanding opportunity for our students to start their professional pilot career, said Kent Lovelace, chair, UND Department of Aviation. Envoy\u27s program selects UND instructors and students as early as the sophomore level from specific academic aviation majors. As the selected students progress through their academic program, they will be mentored by UND Department of Aviation faculty and staff and by Envoy pilots and staff. When the student candidate completes their Bachelor of Science degree, they will work as a certified flight instructor to build their flight experience to the level required by the FAA for a first officer position at a commercial carrier. While the program doesn\u27t automatically move the graduate into a first officer position, they are guaranteed an interview with the airline. Envoy is happy to partner with University of North Dakota on our pilot pipeline program, said Richard King, Envoy\u27s Manager of Pilot Recruitment. This program seeks to identify top aviators from the nation\u27s most well-respective aviation institutions. About the University of North Dakota Department of Aviation: The Aviation Department in the Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota (Grand Forks) is an international leader in collegiate and contract aviation education. The department offers seven four year degree majors in Aviation/Airport/ Technology Management, Professional Flight, Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operations and Air Traffic Control all supported by a liberal arts core.
