McCants Stewart (1854-1923), lawyer, of New York and Brooklyn, NY; Honolulu, Hawaii; Liberia; England; and the Virgin Islands; and for several years associate justice of Liberian Supreme Court; his son, McCants Stewart (1877-1919), lawyer, of Portland, OR; and Robert Browning Flippin (1903-1963), McCants Stewart\u27s son-in-law, a correctional counselor at San Quentin Prison (CA), reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, and founder, editor, and publisher of The Spokesman, a black weekly newspaper in San Francisco. Flippin\u27s papers include material relating to his work with NAACP, Council for Civic Unity, and Booker T. Washington Community Center.
