Factores asociados a la hepatitis C en pacientes dializados

Introduction: in dialyzed patients, it has been observed a high incidence of hepatitis since the beginning of dialysis as a substitute treatment for renal function. In hemodialysis a prevalence of 13% is observed, with a high variability (from one to 70%). Objective: to determine the prevalence of hepatitis C and its associated factors in dialyzed patients. Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed; the universe of study consisted of the 169 patients who were under dialysis treatment. The variables studied were age, sex, time of dialysis, history of renal transplantation and dialysis method. Results: a prevalence of 36,7% was observed among the patients studied. As for sex the male (37,5%) was the most affected and by age group from 25 to 34 years (55,6%). Of 91,3% was the prevalence among patients with more than three years of dialysis treatment, of 78,6% among those who reported antecedents of renal transplantation and 38,7% in the case of patients receiving hemodialysis as treatment renal replacement. Conclusions: the time of treatment in hemodialysis was the factor of greatest association with hepatitis C infection in dialyzed patients.Introducción: en pacientes dializados se ha observado, desde los comienzos de la diálisis como tratamiento sustitutivo de la función renal, una alta incidencia de hepatitis. En hemodiálisis se observa una prevalencia del 13%, con una alta variabilidad (del uno al 70%). Objetivo: determinar la prevalencia de hepatitis C y sus factores asociados en los pacientes dializados. Método: se realizó un estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal; el universo de estudio estuvo constituido por los 169 pacientes que estaban bajo tratamiento dialítico. Las variables estudiadas fueron la edad, el sexo, el tiempo de tratamiento dialítico, los antecedentes de trasplante renal y el método dialítico. Resultados: se observó una prevalencia del 36,7% entre los pacientes estudiados. En cuanto al sexo el masculino (37,5%) fue el más afectado y por grupos de edades el de 25 a 34 años (55,6%). De 91,3% fue la prevalencia entre los pacientes con más de tres años de tratamiento dialítico, de 78,6% entre los que refirieron antecedentes de trasplante renal y de 38,7% en el caso de los pacientes que recibían hemodiálisis como tratamiento sustitutivo renal. Conclusiones: el tiempo de tratamiento en hemodiálisis representó el factor de mayor asociación a la infección por el virus de la hepatitis C en pacientes dializados
