View of Great Tibet

A set of 50 photographs and associated handwritten descriptive notes, acquired from the Imperial Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg.These handwritten notes accompany a set of 50 photographs taken by two Mongolian Buddhist lamas, G. Ts. Tsybikoff [Tsybikov] and Ovshe (O. M.) Norzunoff [Norzunov], who visited Tibet in 1900 and 1901. The notes were written in Russian for the Imperial Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg by Tsybikoff, Norzunoff, and other Mongolians familiar with Central Tibet. Alexander Grigoriev, corresponding member of the American Geographical Society, translated the notes from Russian to English in April 1904
