The aim of the article is to indicate the comparative-historical linguistic facts used in teaching Latvian language phonetics. Study programmes, contents of specific textbooks published in 1923–1940 and 1945–1958 is the basis for identifying the extent to which comparative-historical linguistic findings are found in curriculum. Practical application of findings of comparative-historical linguistics on Latvian language textbooks provides students with improved understanding of historic background of the language and knowledge base required to analyse historic processes affecting the language development.
