Letter from Ingolstadt, 1946 June 01

Davis informs his parents that he has been promoted to Tech Sgt. and not to tell anybody because he is not supposed to reveal his rank. He also describes a photo of Heunz with Hauber, an inn keeper and his wife. Davis says he now sees them almost every weekend he is in Ingolstadt. Enclosed: First page of Davis\u27 promotion orders. Davis 1619 Boston MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA Dear Folks: There are my promotion orders. You cannot say to anybody that I was promoted to Tech Sgt., however, as they all think I have got some fancy high rank. As a matter of fact, we are forbidden to reveal our rank at all. So don’t show these orders to anybody! This is a photo of Heinz (^w )eith the innkeeper and his wife who has the tavern directly across the street from the Military Government building in Ingolstadt. In spite of that, Brady and I never bothers to visit him more than once or twice in the time that we were there in Ingolstadt. In the last three months, Heinz, seeking to broaden his popular base in Ingolstadt made the guy’s acquaintance and now I see this joker about every weekend that I come to Ingolstadt. His specialty is black market food, and we really gorge ourselves on eggs and ham at his restaurant.
