Un habitat chasséen en Auvergne: Champ Madame à Beaumont (Puy-de-Dôme) au Néolithique moyen II

National audienceAn extensive site occupied during the first half of the fourth millennium, between 4000 and 3500BC, the habitat dating back to the Chasséen period of Champ Madame in Beaumont includes several hamlets: Artière-Ronzière, consisting of twelve buildings partially enclosed by a wall, a funeral complex and several specialized spaces. Le Colombier and Les Foisses, two occupations formed by several activity areas dedicated to domestic occupations and crafts. A building and a cabin located at the Foisses also induce the presence of a hamlet. Building 3 at Artière-Ronzière, which stands out for its architecture and for the ceramic and carved lithic artifacts uncovered in its foundations, seems to be part of the cultural sphere of the southern Chasséen culture. Forming a circle, the funeral complex has five sepulchral graves and a small megalith. Thirteen individuals are buried there, either individually or simultaneously. More broadly, the analysis of architecture and artifacts, fairly homogeneous from a chronocultural and technical point of view, allows to identify cultural borrowing and influxes from other cultural groups that act on the foundation that is strongly anchored in the Néolithique moyen I of Basse-Auvergne. It also identifies the early signs of cultural and social changes that announce the dawn of the third millennium BC.Vaste site occupé au cours de la première moitié du IVe millénaire, entre 4000 et 3500 ans avant notre ère, l’habitat chasséen de Champ Madame à Beaumont regroupe plusieurs hameaux : Artière-Ronzière, composé de douze bâtiments enclos partiellement par une enceinte, un ensemble funéraire et plusieurs espaces spécialisés ; Le Colombier et Les Foisses, deux occupations formées par des aires d’activités à vocations domestiques et artisanales. Un bâtiment et une cabane situés aux Foisses induisent également la présence d’un hameau. Le bâtiment 3 d’Artière-Ronzière, qui se distingue par son architecture et par les mobiliers céramique et lithique taillé recueillis dans ces fondations, semble s’inscrire dans la sphère culturelle du Chasséen méridional. Formant un cercle, l’ensemble funéraire compte cinq fosses sépulcrales et un petit mégalithe. Treize individus y sont inhumés, soit individuellement, soit simultanément. Plus généralement, l’analyse de l’architecture et des mobiliers, assez homogènes d’un point de vue chronoculturel et technique, permet de dégager des emprunts et des influx à d’autres groupes culturels qui agissent sur un substrat fortement ancré dans le Néolithique moyen I de Basse-Auvergne. Elle permet également de repérer les signes précurseurs des changements culturels et sociaux qui annoncent l’aube du IIIe millénaire avant notre ère
