McCauley and Stitt's diagnostic ratio was used to studystereotypes in undergraduates (N = 547) of Brasilia. Subjects comparedpeople from five regional groups, (Rio, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, RioGrande do Sul and the Northeast), with the Brazilian population ingeneral, using a list of fifteen adjectives. Anova & Tukey tests wereemployed to compare subjects by sex, place of birth, and years ofresidence in Brasilia; a qualitative analysis was done, based on the mediansand their deviations from the values attributed to Brazilians ingeneral. Results show a tendency to perceive the five regional groupsaccording to current stereotypes, and, for subjects born in these regions,to accept, in their own evaluations, the perceptions of others.RESUMO ...
