This course provides an overview of diversity and its importance in the criminal justice system, focusing on issues of race, gender, and economic inequality. The course also examines disadvantaged age categories, physical and mental disabilities and other aspects of diversity. The course presents issues in a social and historical context, demonstrating how diversity forms a framework for understanding the relationship between the criminal justice system and citizens. Students will also learn that diversity and difference can be used as a resource in criminal justice research, practice, and policy making. **This class can be used as a substitute for students seeking POST for SOC 3350.
