Puente para la autopista Lausana-San Mauricio

As Switzerland is modernising its road network, and the National Exhibition at Lausanne will also place increased demands on road transport, the construction of the new bridge over the river Sorge has been urgently started. This bridge has two independent sections for the traffic in each direction. During the first phase a single bridge was built, and later a second one will be added. Present day Swiss road specifications are being used for the design of these structures. The bridge is about 180 ms long, runs 40 m over the valley, and consists of three spans, of 48, 82 and 48 m length. Its concrete deck is a box section, whose depth varies between 1.80 m at the springers, to 4.40 m, over the piles. The central span has been built cantilevering it from either side, and the other spans according to the standard practice in these cases. Owing to the great height of the piles, and the poor quality of the soil, a very detailed study of the subsoil was necessary, both below the piles, and at the two extremities of the bridge. A special source of difficulty was the calculation of the various positive and negative deflections that had to be foreseen so that the two cantilevered branches should meet at the centre span. To achieve this, the prestressing cables, and their loading were planned most accurately.La modernización de la red nacional de carreteras en Suiza, y la apertura de la Exposición Nacional de Lausana que motivará un aumento considerable del tráfico, han dado como resultado el comienzo urgente de las obras del nuevo puente sobre el río Sorge, con dos direcciones independientes. En la primera fase se construyó un solo puente y, posteriormente se construirá el otro, apoyándose para su cálculo y disposición en las normas suizas vigentes. El puente tiene unos 180 m de longitud total, se eleva unos 40 m sobre el fondo del valle, tiene tres tramos de 48, 82 y 48 m de luz, respectivamente; es de hormigón y el tablero está formado por una viga cajón continua de canto variable de 1,80 m en estribos a 4,40 m sobre las pilas. El tramo central se ha construido en voladizo, y los laterales, siguiendo los procedimientos clásicos de cimbra. La gran altura de las pilas, así como las pobres condiciones de sustentación del terreno, dieron lugar a un detenido estudio de los cimientos de las pilas y de los estribos. Fue motivo de principal preocupación la serie de contraflechas que debían preverse para llegar a un cierre perfecto, en la clave, de los dos brazos en voladizo, para lo cual los cables de pretensado y sus tensiones de tesado se calcularon con extraordinario cuidado
