As Switzerland is modernising its road network, and the National Exhibition at Lausanne will also place increased demands on road transport, the construction of the new bridge over the river Sorge has been urgently started. This bridge has two independent sections for the traffic in each direction. During the first phase a single bridge was built, and later a second one will be added. Present day Swiss road specifications are being used for the design of these structures. The bridge is about 180 ms long, runs 40 m over the valley, and consists of three spans, of 48, 82 and 48 m length.
