Edificio «Ennia» - Curaçao - Antillas Holandesas

This is one of the first large constructions in the interior of the island, characterized by a configuration which wholly respects the traditional architecture of the archipelago, based on small square blocks of dwellings, and by the proper treatment of the facades which provides the necessary protection from the sun. The construction, made up of three blocks of a square floorplan four stories high —with a semi-basement for installations—, is closed on the outside by means of prefabricated concrete elements which, with their cross-section in the shape of a U, fulfill four different functions: to conceal the perimetral pilars of the structural system; to produce, with their arrangement, deep grooves making it possible to adequately fix the position of the Windows; provide proper support for the horizontal placement of the louvers; and finally, to create, by their conformation, interior hollow spaces which can be used as closets. The complementary treatment of the interior spaces achieves a pleasant atmosphere and ideal working conditions, through the use of simple materials and systems which can be easily handled.Se trata de una de las primeras grandes construcciones en el interior de la isla, caracterizándose por una configuración que respeta íntegramente la arquitectura tradicional del archipiélago, basada en pequeños bloques cuadrados de viviendas, y por el correcto tratamiento de las fachadas que proporciona la debida protección solar, tan necesaria en estas latitudes. La construcción, constituida por tres bloques de planta cuadrada y cuatro niveles de altura —con un semisótano de instalaciones—, se cierra exteriormente por medio de unos elementos prefabricados de hormigón que, con su sección transversal en forma de U, cumplen cuatro funciones distintas: ocultar los pilares perimetrales del sistema estructural; producir, con su disposición, profundas hendiduras que permiten emplazar adecuadamente las ventanas; proporcionar un correcto soporte para la colocación horizontal de las celosías; y, por último, crear, por su conformación, huecos interiores utilizables como armarios. El tratamiento complementario de los espacios interiores consigue, a través de materiales sencillos y sistemas de fácil mantenimiento, un grato ambiente y unas óptimas condiciones de trabajo
