Heavy minerals represent a good tool for determination of the source area of stream sediments. Studied sediment derivated from upper part Hodonínka river drainage area contain the following mineral association: garnets + amphiboles + Al2SiO5 minerals + ilmenite (content of other minerals is below the 6 vol. %). The studied part of the Hodonínka river drainage area is located in the rocks of the Polička Crystalline Complex, Moravian micaschist zone and Olešnice Unit of Moravicum. Chemical compositions of garnet, amphibole, ilmenite and staurolite from possible source rocks and studied river sediment show remarkable similarity.
