Siliceous duricrusts are distributed in regions of the Czech Republic largely as scattered solitary boulders, except ones from north-west Bohemia. Two genetic categories have been recognized: pedogenic and groundwater silcrete. Their division is based on description of micromorphology under polarizing/scanning electron microscopy, analysis of major oxides chemistry by ICP together with composition of individual micromorphological features by electron microprobe
