Escritura e Imagen.Books made in the XVII th. century are distinguished by a number of special characteristics which are easy to recognize: the front page, the preliminary pages, and the text printed inside the book. In this paper the author explains how prints, which became the most important way to illustrate books in that century, were printed and organized hierarchically into a formal structure. In the same way, the most representative illustrations of the different parts of the book are studied.
