Aflögun jökulíss er háð mörgum þáttum sem erfitt getur verið að mæla. Í u.þ.b. 1250 metra hæð í Langjökli hefur verið komið fyrir 500 metra löngum, manngerðum ísgöngum. Ísgöngin í Langjökli veita einstakt tækifæri til þess að kanna eðliseiginleika jökulíss undir yfirborði. Ekki er það aðeins frábært tækifæri heldur er einnig mikilvægt að þekkja þessa eðliseiginleika, svo að hægt sé að spá fyrir framtíðar endingu ísganganna. En það er vel þekkt að ís hagar sér líkt og þykkur seigur vökvi sem með tímanum aflagast undir stöðugri spennu. Með beinum mælingum er athugað með hvaða hraða hnig á sér stað í göngunum yfir tímabilið 17. febrúar til 12. apríl. Með aflögunarlíkönum Van Der Veen og Nye reynum við að ...
