Background and aims: Irritable Bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder in the digestive tract characterized as abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence and altered bowel function. IBS affects physical, psychological, social and economic state of being and has impact on quality of life. Foods that contain high FODMAPs (fermentable oligo-, di, monosaccharides and polyols) have been linked with worsening symptoms of IBS patients. FODMAPs are short-chains of carbohydrates of various lengths and are poorly absorbed in the small intestine.
