Gold.- Fruit medium, elongated conical; surface a rich golden yellow, from which it derives its name; dots russet; cav- ity medium to deep, large, slope gradual, russeted; basin shallow, calyx partially open; flesh yellow, fine-grained, tender, juicy; very good; slightly subacid; core small; early winter. Hatley.- Fruit regular, medium, oblate conic, somewhat un- equal and oblique; surface neither smooth not very rough, yellow, nearly covered with bright and dark red splashed and striped with russet over gray; dots numerous, irregular, russet, prominent; cavity deep, abrupt, regular, green or russet striped; stem short, to medium; basin medium, abrupt, regular, leather-cracked; eye closed; core pointed, small, closed and clasping; seeds many, broad, plump, dark brown; flesh yellow, fine-grained, tender, melting, juicy, and rich; flavor rich, aromatic, very good to best; season November, and will probaoly be a good keeper north- ward. An excsilent apple to eat out of hand. Harding ( Harding Seedling).-Originated by R. B. Wilson Goshen, Ark. The specimens that I obtained were not very attractive but Mr. Wilson informs me that they were immature when gathered. I understand that the variety is productive, and took first premium at the Washington County Fair for best seebling exhibited. Fruit large, roundish oblate, unequal, irregular; surface dull green, obscurely striped with red on exposed side; cavity medium depth, rounded, abrupt, narrow, with some stellate russet; stem short; basin shallow, nearly smooth; calyx close! or partly open; core medium, clasping; tubs funnel-shaped; stamens median; flesh whitish green, moderately firm, coarse-grained, pleasant subacid; good to very good; winter
