A Historical Perspective on Tourism Studies in Japan : 1930-2015

Generally the history on Tourism Studies in Japan could be divided into the following four periods. 1 The period when the European research achievements, especially the ones in German, were translated and introduced to Japan8(1930s-40s). 2 The period when it was said as a warning against domestic travel boom, from an ethnographic standpoint, that tourism should contribute to the promotion of rural areas such as agricultural mountain and fishing villages (1960s-70s). 3 The period when Torism Studies was flourishing (1970s-80s). 4 The period when many academic societies were founded for various purposes (1990s-2000s).
