Over the last couple of years the situation of the colonial Mesoamerican indigenous nobility is gaining more and more importance in ethohistorical research. This article follows these same lines as its objective is to offer a view of the mechanisms with which this nobility responded to the enormous changes provoked by the conquest until their incorporation in the new colonial order designed by the Spaniards.
