Population aging increases the prevalence of ischemic diseases among the elderly. The number of deaths due to cardiovascular diseases is increasing in Brazil and are significant in the population over 60 years. Objective: To identify the trend of mortality due to acute myocardial infarction in the elderly in Brazil. Methods: Ecological study of time series. All records referring to AMI mortality in the period from 1996 to 2014 in Brazil were analyzed. Mortality rates were calculated and standardized by sex, age range by sex and region. Linear regression was performed to estimate the mortality trend.
