Introduction: Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is a public health problem in world and in the Brazil, with high morbidity and mortality rates observed. It is very important to follow the evolution of this pathology. Objective: To analyze a trend of mortality due to acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in Santa Catarina, from 1996 to 2014. Method: Ecological study of time series study, based on the Mortality Information System (MIS), made available by the Department of Informatics of SUS (DATASUS). Rates calculated from census and intercensity estimates of the Santa Catarina (SC) population according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
