In Centralized Radio Access Networks (C-RANs) Baseband Units (BBUs) are decoupled from Remote Radio Units (RRUs) and placed in BBU Hotels. In this way baseband processing resources can be shared among RRUs, providing opportunities for radio coordination and cost/energy savings.
