Aïn Barbar polymetallic ore veins formation results from the activity of a geothermal field of Langhian age. A succession of mineralization stages and events has been recognized : early chlorite-epidote stage ; main sulphide stage (sphalerite, silicification, chalcopyrite 1 and 2 events) ; late stages with carbonate-pyrite and quartz-arsenopyrite, etc. Fluid inclusion studies indicate low pressure (130 to 80 bars) and a temperature range between 320 °C (chalcopyrite deposition) and 180 °C (end of the late stages).
