The terracotta female head presented here in honour of Jacqueline Karageorghis was found in Yialia, close to Polis Chrysochous, ancient Marion/ Arsinoe, where I excavated a sanctuary of a female divinity, apparently dedicated to the Great Goddess of the island. The head belongs to a medium size terracotta statue and can be dated stylistically to the late 7th/ early 6th century BC, which is the earliest phase in this cult place. The study of that figure, its manufacture and style, aims to contribute to filling the gap that exists in our knowledge concerning terracotta production and iconography in that particular area and to reopen the question on local styles and female figure representations in the west of the island.Raptou Eustathios.
