A peralkaline phonolite from Hohoi Bay (Ua Pou Island, Marquesas archipelago) contains : yellow areas of centimetric size resembling the petals of a flower and containing many small Ti-andradite crystals ; microphenocrysts of pseudoleucite or pseudo-analcite, destabilized into sanidine + nepheline + analcite ; phenocrysts of nepheline ; aegirin augite, sanidine, nepheline, sodalite, analcite in the matrix. The compositions of all these phases are established by microprobe analysis. The yellow areas are considered as partially destabilized primary garnets, and their petrogenetic meaning is discussed. The primary nature of the pseudomorphs is also discussed in the light of their composition and of the position of the Ua Pou phonolites in the ...
