BACKGROUND: Adiponectin and resistin, which have counteracting effects, are suggested to be associated with inflammation and atherosclerosis. The relationship between their levels and prognosis in high risk patients is, however, still unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic values of these adipokines in patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI). METHODS: Adiponectin and resistin levels were measured at acute phase of MI in 397 consecutive patients. All patients were followed-up for the occurrence of all-cause and cardiovascular mortalities.
