The phenomenon of Afro-Brazilians returning to Africa began in the first half of the 18th century and lasted until the beginning of the 20th century. Studies have been written on the Afro-Brazilian communities in Benin and Nigeria, very little has been written on the communities of Togo and Ghana. This article is a preliminary exploration of the history of the Afro-Brazilian community in Togo, especially in Lomé, between 1882 and 1945. It focuses on the history of the Olympio family, one of the most prominent families of Togo.
