The number of mitoses in the rat proximal convoluted tubule during compensatory hypertrophy is lowered by 2 intraperitoneal injections of kidney homogenate, but not by liver homogenate. Counts were performed 47 hr after unilateral nephrectomy. Body weight decreased in injected animals in but 1 out of 3 experimental series and thus cannot explain the suppression of mitoses
