Cuerpo, memoria y experiencia: la peregrinación a Talpa desde San Agustín, Jalisco

There are several positions within social theory on how to study the body, one of them —the theory of embodiment— claims that the body is the center of all existential activity, the subject of perception and, in turn, the source of practices that affect social structures. This paper explores the bodily techniques used in a pilgrimage from San Agustín to Talpa, in southern Jalisco, in order to find the themes that the pilgrims articulate in their voyage. Some of these cultural themes are: the group’s permanence and constitution, the memories inscribed in the body, and the relationship with supernatural beings. All of them make up the pilgrim’s experience of sacredness.En la teoría social sobre el cuerpo existen varias posturas para aproximarse al estudio del mismo. Una de ellas, la corporeización, o embodiment, postula que el cuerpo es el centro de toda actividad existencial, el sujeto de la percepción y generador, a su vez, de prácticas que inciden en las estructuras sociales. En este artículo la autora explora las técnicas corporales utilizadas en una peregrinación del pueblo de San Agustín a Talpa, en el sur de Jalisco, para encontrar las temáticas que los peregrinos articulan en ella. Algunos de estos temas culturales son la permanencia y la constitución del grupo, la memoria inscrita en el cuerpo y la relación con los seres sobrenaturales. Todos ellos conforman la experiencia de lo sagrado de los peregrinos de este pueblo
