This paper is focussed on a topic immersed in a void of knowledge: salt production during the prehistory on the iberian peninsula. The study of salt production in iberia has faced hurdles from the predominant and primarily functionalist approaches, resulting in the low number of prehistoric sites where the extraction of salt "an essential part of life in preindustrial societies" has been documented.
