Machismo has been proposed as a risk factor for female victimization and male perpetration; however, its effect and directionality are not clear. The aims of this article were to determinate the internal consistency and factor structure of a scale of machismo; describe levels of machismo; study the relationship of machismo with the victimization/perpetration phenomena and demographic variables; and contrast models of violence and machismo.
