El nacionalismo revolucionario mexicano y sus críticos (1920-1960)

This essay is based on the premise that Mexican postrevolutionary nationalism was not a monolithic process. The concept, during the first half of the Twentieth Century, was contested by intellectuals from both the left and right and these criticisms fractured the unanimity of the official ideology. This text describes the broad characteristics of the nationalist project and examines the arguments directed against it both from the left and right of the political spectrum. It emphazises some of the reactions to revolutionary art and closes with a reflection on the way in which a historical problem relates to the present. This essay leaves many questions open on the way in which Mexican society, in the first half of the Twentieth Century, asimilated, rejected or evaded some of elements of the official nationalism. This is an important research topic which is not possible to address within the limits of this essay.Este ensayo parte de la premisa de que el nacionalismo posrevolucionario mexicano no constituyó un bloque monolítico. Se trata de una propuesta que durante la primera mitad del siglo XX fue impugnada por intelectuales pertenecientes tanto a tendencias conservadoras como de izquierda. Estas críticas resquebrajaron la unanimidad en torno a la ideología oficial. El texto describe los grandes rasgos del proyecto nacionalista y examina los argumentos esgrimidos en su contra desde la derecha y la izquierda. Se detiene en algunas de las reacciones suscitadas por el arte revolucionario y cierra con una reflexión acerca de la manera en que una problemática histórica se anuda con el presente. Deja abiertas muchas preguntas acerca de la manera en que la sociedad mexicana de la primera mitad del siglo XX asimiló, rechazó o evadió algunos de los elementos del nacionalismo oficial. Este sería un importante trabajo de investigación que no hubiera sido posible realizar dentro de los límites de este trabajo
