Gestuar e Ouvir: Divergências e Convergências entre os CODA licenciados em Tradução e Interpretação em Língua Gestual Portuguesa e os não-CODA licenciados em Língua Gestual Portuguesa

This article intends to present an investigation which is being carried out with the purpose of characterising Portuguese Sign Language (PSL) interpreters, either when they exercise their professional activity exclusively because they have a higher degree in this field or when they do it because they are also CODA (Children of Deaf Adults). Thus, we seek to examine whether the different backgrounds are a determining factor in the interpreters´ professional activity or in the deaf community (main PSL interpretation beneficiaries) perception of it, as well as which converging aspects should be enhanced in order to achieve a professional complementarity that may benefit all participants in the process. To that effect, we will contextualize it by having in mind some key-concepts pertaining to this field, namely in what regards deafness and its developmental and social-cultural implications, as well as PSL linguistic specificities and professional interpretation activity.O presente artigo pretende apresentar uma investigação, a decorrer, visando, por um lado, caracterizar os intérpretes de língua gestual portuguesa (LGP), consoante o seu exercício profissional resulte exclusivamente de formação superior nessa área ou, concomitantemente, da sua condição de CODA (Children of Deaf Adults). Assim, procurar-se-á apurar se os backgrounds distintos se constituem, ou não, como um fator determinante tanto do exercício profissional dos intérpretes, como da perceção que os elementos da comunidade surda (principais beneficiários da interpretação em LGP) deles têm, bem como que aspetos convergentes se devem fomentar no sentido de uma complementaridade profissional que beneficie todos os intervenientes. Para o efeito, enquadraremos esta reflexão com a referência de alguns conceitos-chave neste âmbito, designadamente, no que se reporta ao fenómeno da surdez e das suas implicações desenvolvimentais e socioculturais, e à especificidade linguística da LGP e do exercício profissional da interpretação
