The aim of this qualitative case study is to describe and understand what perception students have about their learning in mathematics, and how mathematics teaching can provide the preconditions for all students' mathematical development. The theoretical framework of the study describes a growth mindset as a success factor in mathematics learning. A growth mindset can be promoted with qualitative good teaching based on research and a formative way of working. With empirical evidence from classroom observations, as well as student and teacher interviews, the student's ability to study mathematics with regard to these factors was examined.
