Managing organizations in developing countries: an operational and strategic approach

The focus of this book is the ability of management and management practices to contribute to sustainable social and economic development. Part 1 provides the theoretical organizational framework and discusses its relevance to the development and management of organizations in both developed and developing countries. Part 2 presents selected topical applications of the framework and its organizational concepts. They include human resources development and utilization; technology and knowledge transfer; decentralization; and the management of structural adjustment and public sector reform. A final chapter introduces the concept of strategic organizations and strategic roles, pulling together the previous discussions and illustrating their relevence to managing development.
