Higher Education Emergency Management Program Accreditation: Seeking the Holy Grail

University hospitals are accredited, college police departments are accredited and academic programs of higher education institutions receive accreditation. But what about the program(s) that protect and safeguard the lives of those living, working and visiting your campus? Emergency management accreditation programs and other baseline performance management standards are out there, but have yet to be applied to institutions of higher education. This workshop will discuss the various national and international programs and standards and provide a preview of what potentially is in store for colleges and universities. In these times of reduced programs and fiscal support for emergency management programs nationwide, the ability to measure and track your institution’s crisis, emergency management and/or business continuity programs is more critical than ever. Learn about current and newly proposed programs NFPA 1600 and EMAP and how they may impact our ability to conduct an objective measurement of our individual campus’ ability to protect our people, property, environment and mission.
