Neutrophil granulocytes were prepared for electron microscopy by freeze etching. By this method artifacts of thin sectioning are avoided and the surfaces of cells and cell organelles can be demonstrated. The surfaces show particles, 80-100 A in size. The relevance of these spheric particles and of the plane of fracture in relation to the membranes is discussed
