Gangnam Style

This is one of hundreds of 60-second radio spots created by the Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) for Kansas Public Radio (KPR). The purpose of this outreach program is to introduce the people of Kansas to the culture and current issues of East Asia.Broadcast Transcript: Gangnam Style has taken the teen culture by force. The music video has gone viral and the song's creator, a dude who goes by the name of Psy, has achieved world fame with his crazy horse dance. It's a pastiche of quick cuts of locales from the Gangnam gu, the ultra-wealthy neighborhood south of the Han River here in Seoul. This neighborhood is home to trust fund babies who will spend 2000 won--about $2--on ramen for lunch then turn around and spend 6000 won on a cup of designer coffee. At least one major US magazine suggests that the video is a social commentary on the class differences in South Korea's capital city. Whatever. More importantly, the video has sparked a parody by the University of Oregon featuring their mascot, the Duck. Standing by to hear... Oppan. Jayhawk style. #ceas #hacker #southkore
