Evidenced Based Practice: Classroom to Clinical Laboratory

Evidence based practice (EBP) can beincorporated into the curriculum of Medical LaboratoryScience (MLS) Programs. Current components ofcurriculum can include EBP in pre-analytic, analytic,and post-analytic topics. Discussion of EBP topics inthe classroom using practices assessed through theLaboratory Medicine Best Practices Initiative(LMBP™) of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control andPrevention will give students a clear understanding ofEBP and how it is used in the clinical laboratory forimproved health care quality. Student involvement inQuality Improvement projects to improve laboratoryperformance and patient outcomes can be developedthrough capstone projects. Examples of clinical projectsand application of EBP into the MLS curriculum arediscussed
