Contributions to simulation and control of converter-dominated grid systems with focus on MMC-based HVDC systems

Die stark steigende Zahl von Stromrichtern im Energieversorgungsnetz und von Hochspannungs-Gleichstrom-Übertragungssystemen (HGÜ) stellt neue Herausforderungen. Besonders relevant ist das erhöhte Instabilitätsriskio, welches durch die Dominanz der Stromrichter und die deren Interaktion bedingt wird. Außerdem stellen im HGÜ-Bereich und bei Hochspannungs-Netzkurzkupplungen immer häufiger eingesetzte modulare Mehrpunktstromrichter (MMC) durch die hohe Komplexität neue Anforderungen an die Regelung sowie die Leistungsfähigkeit von Simulationstools. Die vorliegende Arbeit behandelt beide Aspekte, indem eine dynamische Regelung mit aufwandsoptimaler Pulsmustererzeugung für MMC vorgestellt wird sowie ein Simulationsansatz für Stromrichter-dominierte Netzsysteme und MMC spezifiziert wird. Die aufgezeigten Strategien werden in einem realitätsnahen Simulationsszenario anhand eines Offshore-Netzsystems mit 160 Windkraftanlagen sowie einem MMC-HGÜ-Netzverbindungssystem kombiniert und verifiziert.The increasing number of converters in the energy-distribution grids and of high-voltage direct current systems (HVDC) causes new challenges. Particular relevant is the increased risk of instabilities which is caused by the dominant converters and their interaction. Furthermore, the modular-multilevel converters (MMC) used in HVDC systems and grid-coupling systems require an advanced control strategy and powerful simulation tools because of their high complexity. In this thesis, both aspects are discussed as a highly dynamic control strategy for a MMC with a pulse-pattern generation with minimal effort is introduced and a simulation approach for converter-dominated grid systems and MMC is specified. The introduced strategies are combined and verified with a realistic simulation scenario containing an offshore-grid system with 160 wind-energy plants and a HVDC grid-connection system based on the MMC topology
