Groundnut Variety ICGV 87187 (ICGS 37).Plant Material Description no.27

ICGV87187 (ICGS37), released in 1990 for cultivation in the summer groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) zone II in India (Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra), was derived from a single-plant selection made in a natural hybrid population from a cross between the early maturing, Virginia-type Indian variety Robut 33-1 (Kadiri 3) and an unknown parent. ICGV87187 is a Spanish-type variety with a decumbent 2 to decumbent 3 growth habit, matures in 110-120 days and has a shelling turnover of 70%. It is photoperiod insensitive. Mean pod yield of ICGV87187 in zone II during 1980-87 ranged from 2.14 to 4.34 t/ha, an average increase of 41.5% over the control variety J11. ICGV87187 outyielded J11 by 62% in limited on-farm adaptive trials in Gujarat. ICGV87187 has a potential pod yield of 3-4 t/ha under good management conditions. Pods of ICGV87187 are medium-sized, attractive and contain 1-2 seeds; seeds are tan in colour with a 100-seed weight of 53 g and contain 48% oil and 23% protein.
