Risco, Meio Ambiente e Agrotóxicos no Maranhão

The adverse effects associated with pesticides are well attuned to the typical risks of the late modernity: they are unlimited in time and space and have catastrophic potential. Because those are severe consequences risks, the contribution of social risk theory can be applied in the analysis of the way in wich brazilian law deal with pesticides. The paper proposes to discuss the prohibitive instruments foreseen or not in the federal law on pesticides, as well as in the law of the State of Maranhão that disposes on the matter.Os efeitos adversos associados aos agrotóxicos estão bem afinados com os riscos típicos da segunda modernidade: são ilimitados temporal e espacialmente e têm potencial catastrófico. Por se configurarem riscos de graves consequências, o aporte da teoria social do risco pode ser utilizado na análise do modo como as leis brasileiras dispõem sobre os agrotóxicos. O trabalho propõe-se a discutir os instrumentos proibitivos previstos ou não na lei federal sobre agrotóxicos, bem como na lei do estado do Maranhão que dispõe sobre a matéria
