International audienceThe article starts out with an analysis of the official representation of power embodied in the human figure in order to compare it to caricature as a subversive representation that questions the representation of the Other. It shows that caricature operates with figures of style that entail a subject who resists the figure of the master. The iconoclastic humor of political caricature reveals a psychic economy that is played out in the unresolved tension between the alienation and the emancipation of the subject with respect to the Other, as guarantor of the social fabric.
