Computation fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling was used to identify the design of chevron microstructures on the reverse osmosis membranes surface that enhance hydrodynamics in feed channels. Based on these models chevron micromixers printed directly to a Dow Filmtec SW30XLE membrane. Using 1.9 μm diameter fluorescent green styrene beads purchased from Bangs Laboratories (Fishers, IN) into the crossflow feed channel with an inlet velocity of 0.104 m/s confirms the flow profiles predicted by the CFD modeling.Walker, J.S.
