Conventional mesh feed spacers in the spiral wound elements contribute to membrane fouling. To reduce fouling, chevron micromixers were printed directly to a Dow Filmtec SW30XLE membrane. Based on the open channel design, reverse flow cleaning of 3-D printed micromixers was evaluated. The attached video (30 seconds) shows 5 minutes of reverse flow cleaning (flow right to left).
