Collaboration (co-authorship) networks for two representative junior (StG) ERC grantees (placed in the centre of the graphs) from higher (top) and lower (bottom) performing countries. Each researcher (co-author) is depicted as a node whose size refers to the eigencentrality score and, thus, to his or her relative importance within the network. The colour of the node is assigned automatically for each individual network and cannot be used for comparisons. Edge widths represent the number of publications co-authored by the two linked researchers.
