Hippocampal network oscillations of distinct frequency bands like gamma- oscillations and sharp wave-ripple complexes (SPW-Rs) are likely involved in various cognitive functions such as the storage of information and memory consolidation in vivo. Memory formation depends on novelty detection which is indicated by global release of monoamines. Storage of information may also be influenced by locally released peptides such as C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP).
